Film Synopsis:

A PRAYING GRANDMOTHER: THE HELEN BAYLOR STORY tells the compelling story of a young woman with a voice touched by the hand of God, who nearly goes to the depths of hell before being delivered by the power of prayer. The story begins in the early 1950s when four year old, Helen Lowe is sent to live with her paternal grandparents while her young parents work out their finances.

At age six, this once out-spoken little girl is changed profoundly after being molested by a family member. She knew she had a voice and this carried her all the way from teen R & B sensation to a role in the cast of HAIR at the age of 17. She was introduced to drugs and throughout her 20s as her R&B career soared, she sang with Chaka Khan, Captain & Tennille and other entertainers. Her addictions led her into dark crevices and near death experiences … but she had a praying grandmother: Grandma Hudson.
