CFDb Interviews Lisa Arnold ~ Actress/Director/Producer/Writer

= > When and how did you first get involved in the film industry?

After years of being on stage in regional productions and  hosting a “live” TV show, I began working in film in 1998 both as an actress and behind the camera.  I thought that the medium would be too slow for me since I was used to the rush of a “live” performance, but I fell in love with the process of film making.  I couldn’t get enough of it.  After working for several years though, I was discouraged at the scripts that I was getting and began to write solely out of frustration.  I have to say it is such a great joy to create a story and then as the director (and sometimes the actor) bring it to life!

= > What inspired the writing of ‘This is Our Time’?

I was drawn to the concept of the film because I am so inspired by the younger generation and their passion to serve the Lord no matter the cost.  My kids, Nick and Megan who are now 22 and 23 inspire me daily and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for them.

When I sat down to write this story,  I was in a place of many questions, much like I was after college.  A door had abruptly closed even though I was certain that I was serving God as He wanted me to.  Full of doubt and fear, I had to stand in faith that I was on the right path and that God was going to use me both in ministry and through storytelling.

As I began writing THIS IS OUR TIME,  it poured out of me like a download from God Himself.  10 days later I had completed the first draft; 30 days later I had permission to include Embrace A Village in the film, financing for the project and distribution lined up.  Most times in our lives, we are waiting for God to answer us, but He did not leave me in a place of doubt at all.  He was there with me as I stepped out in faith and wrote the script and then He blew the doors open to make sure that it was made!  I have never experienced anything like it and am so grateful that I got to see His miraculous hand on this project from day one.

= > Please tell us more about ‘This is Our Time’ and how you think this film will impact lives.

THIS IS OUR TIME carries so many themes.  First and foremost, we must realize that it’s His time, not ours.  Life is but a vapor and we need to make a difference while we are here.  Secondly, this story shows us that God is always with us through every circumstance.  He is guiding us daily to NOT what we are called to do, but rather what we are called to be!  He uses every season of life for His purpose and if we will lean in, be obedient and listen to His voice, He will fulfill all that He has called us for.  I love the story of Ethan because I think we have all been there.  Sometime in our life, we have felt sidelined, passed up and unworthy.  In reality though, God’s always there and even though we may not be able to see it, He is using us!

It’s our hope that THIS IS OUR TIME goes beyond the screen and is used as a ministry tool.  That’s why we created the four week study guide as a FREE resource for churches, youth organizations or anyone desiring to take a deeper look at what God has for them in this season!  The Study Guide can be downloaded at http://pureflix.com/portfolio/this-is-our-time/ or checkthegatepro.tumblr.com.  We encourage youth and college groups to use the film and the study guide to help their students see clearly the path that God has laid out for them.

Joe Clenddeny, the founder of Embrace A Village and I will also be speaking at several churches this year on our film and EAV.  If you would like us to come to your church, you can contact us through Pure Flix Entertainment or email us at checkthegateproductions@gmail.com.  To find out more about EAV, go to embraceavillage.org.

= > Has this film won any awards?  If yes, please tell us about them.

Yes, THIS IS OUR TIME was honored with the Best Feature Film at the International Christian Film Festival last month.  We have also been selected and nominated at the Glory Reelz Christian Film Festival and Kingdomwood Christian Film Festival.

We are very blessed by the support and love coming in for our movie and are grateful that God is using it in such a mighty way.  We are also thrilled that the film is helping us to get the word out about Embrace A Village and the work that they are doing in India with leprosy victims.  They are truly being the hands and feet of Jesus to the forgotten.

= > Are you currently working on any other films you can share with us?

Check The Gate Productions is currently in pre-production on “AMAZING GRACE” and will also be collaborating with Pure Flix Entertainment on “NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE”.  I will be directing both of these films and helping on the producing side.  Beyond that, we have four other projects that we are currently in development on; two of which I am writing. I will also hopefully be stepping back in front of the camera this year and am focusing on faith-based roles.

= > How can others find out more about you and your work?

We love to collaborate with other Christian film makers so please give us a shout!  You can go to checkthegateproductions.com to find out more about our company, upcoming projects, speaking engagements and news updates from wherever we are filming.  If you have a question, please feel free to contact us at checkthegateproductions@gmail.com.  I’m also on facebook at facebook.com/lisaarnoldctg and facebook.com/CheckTheGateProductions.

    Ms. Arnold,

My name is David Hollier and I have recently wrote a book titled “Love of the Father”. It is a Christian book that is an easy read book that has a great message.

It is how Jesus uses an eight year old boy to get the boys dad back to God. The dad is upset at God because he is blaming everything that has happened in his life that is bad on God and forbids his family to go to church or speak the name of God around him. Jesus confronts the boy in a mall not as Jesus but as a homeless person. Telling the young man that He would see him again in a dream and for him not to be afraid. He allows the young man to visit his grandma that is in Heaven and she tell him how wonderful the Father is and how loving Heaven is. The young man questions Jesus saying that he is only eight years old and how could he control his father. Jesus assures him that He will by the boys side and not to be afraid. Through the story the dad is faced with something he thought he never would be faced with and that is the possibilityof his first born son taken from him. I feel it has a good message and I hope you take time to read it. Have been told by numerous people that It should be a movie so I hope you take the time to read through it.

I am from Baton Rouge and am 72 years old. I look forward to maybe hearing from you. I can send you a copy or if need be I can forward the script via email. Please let me know and until then I remain your friend in Christ David Hollier. Cell phone is 225- 202-7309
