Anna’s Heart on…

Pet Peeves in Movies

What is a pet peeve anyway? A pet peeve is a particular and often continual annoyance to a particular person, in this case…me!  I’d love it if someone would share how this term came about in the first place because I couldn’t figure it out.

So there you have it…My #1 Pet Peeve in movies is Predictability.  Sort of like a romance movie.  If you are a woman, you know exactly what I mean.  You always know there will be a conflict somewhere and then that conflict will be resolved and 99% of the time you know exactly what’s going to happen, within a guess or two.  It’s even more annoying when it’s the same story line, with different actors.  There is really no point at all in watching those.

Like Zach, on Indy Christian Review who doesn’t want to see one more end time movie…that is how I feel about movies that begin to take that predictability turn.  I LOVE to be surprised, which happened to me recently at a screening for ‘Do You Believe‘.  That is a movie that surprised me with a really memorable, totally unexpected scene.

As Christians, we should be tapped into the power of God through the Holy Spirit, therefore our style should be unique.  Christian filmmakers should be producing the highest quality, with bits of uniqueness within each film.  This can only be accomplished with much prayer and reflection and feedback.  It’s difficult to see the flaws within your own work. We should all strive to do all to the Glory of God.

I Corinthians 10:31 – Whether therefore ye eat or drink, do all to the glory of God.

CFDb offers an e-book entitled, Steps to Quality Christian Filmmaking which can help the filmmaker to improve.  We, as Christians, should always be improving whether we are beginners or specialists.  I’m discovering that I learn something new almost every day and that our views change as we go through different trials.

So…what is the purpose of Anna’s heart?  To reveal my heart to you…

Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

So…why is predictability so offensive to me?  It’s because of my own heart and my own predictability.  Things that really bother me are because they are things I see in myself.  Predictability is more like habits, which truly make up our character.  That is why we need to study the Word of God so we can be conformed into His image, instead of our own.

The more I read His Word, the more I see the wickedness in my own heart and that annoying predictability.  What’s beautiful is that I also see the changes being made by God as He reveals more and more to me and what needs to be changed.

Just this past weekend some thoughts came to me that I want to share with you:

“My purpose is to hear from God and speak for God. To learn from God and teach others. To be loved by God and show His love to others. To receive His mercy and extend that mercy to others. Freely I have received, freely I will give to others. I have been healed by God in my heart, so I could heal others through my words and actions”

Such a simple purpose and yet encompasses the whole life.

With God all things are possible, especially when it comes to victory.  He wants us to walk in victory and He gives us the ability to do that.  Only in His strength and that is why I formulated a study about Victorious Scriptures –  Tract 7 – Victory

There is HOPE for me and hope for you and hope for Christian movies too as we all connect closer with Christ.  Keep seeking Him and climbing higher to that goal of perfect love for Christ and perfect love for others.

What a great observation and revelation regarding predictability. I never thought of that before and how it mirrors my own “predictable” behavior. Awesome prayer. Great blog, thank you! Loving the fun pics.
