What CFDb is & What it is Not

The ins and outs of CFDb and Why We Exist.

CFDb All Things Christian Film

This is taken from our home page and explains it well:

Christian Movies All in One Place, Easy to Find!

CFDb is a “Non-denominational” online Christian Film Resource Hub. We are located in the U.S., but list “Christian Films” from all over the world. We list all films with a “Christian Message“, it does not matter who makes it. If Hollywood, a Christian, or an Atheist makes a Christian Movie, we list it on CFDb. We also list films that are marketed to Christians, but that does not mean we endorse every film on the database.

what-is-conveyancingSo what does that mean?  It means that CFDb lists Christian Films, as well as Films marketed to Christians, as well as certain films that are a call to action for believers in Christ.

COMPLAINTWe’ve received NUMEROUS complaints from many different people over the past couple of years because of a misunderstanding of what we are and what we do.  We are a non denominational database of all Christian films ever made (still compiling that list and it changes daily).

Here are a couple of definitions we found for the word –

Database

1. a systematized collection of data that can be accessed immediately and manipulated by a data-processing system for a specific purpose
2. informal  any large store of information: a database of knowledge

So most of what we do is just a LIST, that does NOT mean we endorse all the films listed on the database.  If you are looking for CFDb Recommendations you can try here for a good start.  CFDb Recommendations.

We are also…much more than a list of Christian Films, we are your resource for “All Things Christian Film!” We list everything from the latest Christian Film News, Interviews, Reviews, to Upcoming Christian Movies, Christian Film Trailers and Christian Film Festivals.

We also list warnings on certain films on their movie page, as well as link to places like the Dove Foundation and MovieGuide for reviews so you can make the best possible decision for yourself and your family of what films are safe to watch.

not-perfect

So what CFDb is NOT…perfect.  We are constantly improving and changing and praying about what direction God would have us to go with this database.  It is a tool for churches and pastors and people to find great films especially through using our browsing categories option.

We haven’t seen every film on the database so we need your help to let us know when a film may have objectionable content in it so we can add a warning to the film page.

Reality-Check-ChangeNow, as a result of several complaints on 1 particular issue, CFDb has made a big change.  We prayed over the situation and made the decision to remove all the LDS films from the database.  There weren’t that many on the database to begin with and some of them were really great Christian films, still are!

I want to explain why we made this decision.  I firmly believe that there are genuine Christians within this denomination, as well as in all denominations.  Let me tell you a quick story here that causes me to believe this.

I was selling Christian books at one point in my life and I had a great book all about the life of Jesus and while I was talking to this woman I explained to her that most likely the only ones who wouldn’t be interested in this book would be Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons.  She asked why and I proceeded to show my wisdom or lack thereof by saying their denominations discouraged their people to read any materials outside of their own faith.  She then told me that she was Jehovah’s Witness and she wanted that book because her grandmother taught her to read anything about Jesus she could possibly get a hold of.  It was at this moment I realized I’m not the judge and only God knows someone’s heart and He is working on all hearts, whether we realize it or not.

So, to our Mormon friends whom have assured us that they do believe Jesus is their Savior, and need to ask and accept forgiveness from Him in order to be saved, I’m sorry we came to this conclusion but need to explain why.

Even though some powerful truths may be spoken during these Mormon films, there is 1 thing that stands out above all else, and that is the Book of Mormon, that is held higher than the Bible and shown throughout most of these films as the main source of bringing someone to Mormonism, rather than Jesus.

There is a main reason I personally don’t believe in Mormonisn and it’s because the Bible is very clear that no man has seen God at any time.  (That is God the Father).  So just because the founder, Joseph Smith claimed to be visited by God the Father and God the Son, that is evidence enough that it’s not truth.  I do pray that our Mormon friends will research this fact thoroughly because the Word of God, the Bible, is our Foundation and Jesus IS the Word of God as well.

I was disappointed not to find any LDS films in your database. I admit some LDS films are lame but there are some fantastic ones that do not have lots of LDS doctrine. A couple that you should see are “Saints and Soldiers” and “The Saratov Approach”. These two are awesome! I did read your comments about “Mormons” or members of the (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). I can see your points of view when you take the extreme approach and do not compare it to the Bible. Your comments about Joseph Smith seeing God. Please read Acts 7 about Stephen. Also Exodus 33:11. Also your comments about us holding up the Book of Mormon above the Bible is not accurate. We consider the Bible equal when it is translated correctly. I can go deeper into that if you wish to discuss. We believe that the same Jesus of Nazareth from the Bible is the only way we will get to Heaven. That we must accept him as our Lord and Savior or we will not be saved.

    Thanks,

We’ve had Mormon films on the database for quite a few years and we love a lot of their films but the Bible wasn’t brought out, just the Book of Mormon and that was what led to our decision to take them off.

Those verses referred to are not seeing God the Father (Only the similitude) – They were not able to see His face. All the things I read about Joseph was that he said he saw God the Father (that the Father came right to him and he saw him). That is not the same. The Bible is clear that no man saw the face of the Father. (Remember Moses could only see His back and the elders saw the similitude and Stephen saw Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father but never said anything about His face.) The other verse states that no man could see the Father and live. I hope that makes sense. Saints and Soldiers is on the database though. If you type in saints you’ll find it.

The issue about the Book of Mormon over the Bible is what is portrayed in the Mormon films. We can only base it on the films alone. We are not of the belief that LDS cannot be saved. We’ve spoken to many LDS and they assured us that they do believe in Jesus as their Saviour in order to be saved. It is only God that can see our hearts and only He can make those decisions for salvation.

I respect your point of view, however you may not have accurate information regarding members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons. In fact, Jesus Christ is the center of Mormon doctrine. Even the same Jesus Christ that was the God of Israel. The same who came in the flesh in the meridian of time. He came unto his own and his own received him not. The same whose mortal ministry culminated in his crucifixion, and an infinite atonement that enables salvation for all people who come unto Christ. To say otherwise, is to not understand Mormonism. I encourage you to seek out information from reputable and reliable sources. The internet is replete with horrible things about Mormons, and those things are simply not true, or taken out of context to seem out of touch with Christianity. Of a truth I tell you that The Book of Mormon contains, just as the Bible, the doctrine of Jesus Christ. It is held in the same esteem as the Bible, and they are carried side-by-side by Mormon missionaries and members alike. The doctrine of Jesus Christ is taught in both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and obviously Jesus Christ being the center of that doctrine is at the center of the Mormon religion. If anyone doubts that Mormons are not true followers of Jesus Christ, the same Jesus Christ with whom all other Christian denominations are familiar with, then I invite you to read the Book of Mormon, and find out for yourself if it is not the same doctrine of Jesus Christ that is taught in the Bible. The same spirit will attest to it. And if you receive that confirmation, then you’ll know and all other doubts will resolve themselves. I challenge you to put it to the test as stated in James 1:5 – “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” Pray and ask, find out for yourself.

    Thank you,
    Luis

Maybe you are referring to a comment made on this section because that isn’t what I wrote in the actual post at all. It is not my belief that Mormons can’t be Christians or that they don’t believe in Jesus as their Savior. The main reason for not including Mormon films on the database is because the ones we used to list seemed to place the Book of Mormon above the Bible. The Bible is the proven Word of God and although other books might benefit us, they still can’t be considered the Word of God or placed above it.

I am LDS. Jesus is my savior who redeems all of us if we depend and place our complete trust on him. The Book of Mormon is what make LDS unique. Just as important as reading and studying the Bible, I’d would hope more people would read it just to understand what it says in the book. It is a testament and witness of Jesus Christ and his personal role in our lives if we open the door and let him in. America has been a Christian nation for much longer than many know.
