“Between Heaven and Ground Zero” ~
CFDb Movie Review
Inspired by the popular and emotional book, BETWEEN Heaven & Ground Zero, this documentary focuses on Leslie Haskin’s harrowing first hand account of being one of the last people to leave one of the crumbling twin towers and her remarkable journey afterward.
Leslie Haskin has become the voice of hope for many. Known for her miraculous escape from the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, her testimony of climbing the corporate ladder and then losing it all is both engaging and heartrending. Even more compelling is God’s faithfulness in transforming her life.
Readers trying to figure out how the world and God work can’t help but learn from Leslie Haskin’s indomitable spirit and compassionate heart. Since surviving the 9/11 attacks, she’s faced post-traumatic stress disorder, the loss of her home, tough times between jobs, a broken engagement, a cancer scare, and perhaps most challenging, raising a teenaged son by herself.
This is a true story and docu-drama based on Leslie Haskin’s book, “Between Heaven and Ground Zero”. It was interesting and informative. There were times when you really felt like you were there and could experience some of what they were experiencing. I’m not sure that is such a good thing, as reliving the experience has to be extremely painful to so many people.
Something that was brought out I hadn’t remembered. One of the men recounted that in building#2 there was an announcement over the loud speaker stating that building#2 was secure and to make their way back into the building. What a terrifying experience, especially for those that did go back in thinking it was all-right.
Everyone was affected in some way by this tragedy, but especially for those who experienced it first hand and for their families.
They say that everyone remembers where they were on that day. I remember VERY clearly. The phone was ringing while I was in the shower, it was Roger telling me to turn on the news. I was getting ready for work and he was already at work. I was stunned. I grew up on Long Island, NY and the first thing I thought was do I know anyone that works there because I had lost touch with so many people after moving away from NY.
I did find out that one of my Junior High friends was killed – he was a firefighter.
