‘Leap of Faith’ ~ CFDb Movie Review

leap_of_faith_ver1Leap of Faith

Fake faith healer Jonas Nightingale is stranded in a small town where he finds he can’t fool all of the people all of the time.

I watched this film before I was a Christian and it impacted my life.  I wanted to rewatch it even though in the first few minutes I really wanted to turn it off because of the language.
Although it doesn’t fit the criteria for being on CFDb, I found myself sucked into the film itself and chose to watch it, even though it went against my normal allowance for a movie.

There were a few things I wanted to highlight from this film:

  • Even though he was a con man, he actually helped quite a few people.  That’s something to think about, especially when we sit in judgment on some preachers we might consider fake.  Our call to action as Christians is to love them and pray for them.  Don’t miss the power of prayer and faith.
  • This definitely shows a lot of the prosperity gospel being preached, as we see a lot today in our pulpits as well, not just on TV.  This movie brings out how it’s not true.
  • The most powerful part of this movie is the real thing, the genuine Christian faith shown in the boy.  This one act of faith, not only changes the boy, it changes the main character, as well as his sidekick.
  • The ending is nice…really genuine.

We don’t recommend this film mostly because of the language and occasional strong sexual content (not in images, but in words).  I was shocked to hear the Lord’s name taken in vain 1 time too.  UGH – This one was a lesson for me…even if I’ve seen it in the past, if I hear something objectionable, I need to just turn it off, but since I didn’t…thought I should review it.

Leap-of-Faith-44x21A Thought from the Scriptures

Matthew 14:28-31 – And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.  And he said, Come.  And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched for his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

That true leap of faith is trusting completely in Jesus, no matter what happens.  Like the 3 Hebrews in the fiery furnace, like Daniel when facing the lion’s den…that is what God wants us to be like.  Trusting Him NO MATTER WHAT!  We praise Him, we trust Him, whether we live or die, whether we are healed or not, whether our situation changes or not.  We trust that our eternity is in His capable Hands.

Is there a leap of faith that you need to take today?  It begins with a tiny step…begin today and don’t let the past drag you down or stop you…move ahead by faith!
