‘Marriage Retreat’ ~ CFDb Movie Review
& Highest Recommendation
When a group of best friends decide to go to a marriage retreat in the mountains for no deeper reasons than to relax and have a little fun, they discover the true state of their marriages and how far apart they have drifted. Once there, Dr. Sullivan (Fahey) and his wife Katrina (Jackson) challenge the couples each one to confront their own sin and relationship issues through some rather unorthodox methods and Biblically based principles.
Now in complete disarray with their marriages unraveling, the couples struggle to resolve their issues when relying solely on their own strength. When it seems like all hope is lost for them, true love is revealed and they soon discover it’s not what they are missing in their relationships but who. Ultimately, they begin their journey finding their way back to the ONE they love.
This movie is FABULOUS, especially the Special Edition! See the Anna Zielinski Interview for more details about this edition.
I’m still laughing over a few scenes in this film, even though it’s actually quite realistic and serious as well. They did a great job on this film. Jeff Fahey is wonderful as Craig, he is so blunt, and obviously burned out, but extremely effective at his job!
There are some definite moments where it’s so obvious what NOT to do. Those are some of the funniest moments, maybe because we can all relate to what they are going through in one way or another.
There is one quote that is spoken by Tommy Blaze who is playing Bobby Castle that I have to share because it was so amazing!
“I don’t need you to remind me when I’ve fallen, I need you to help me back up!” This was said to his wife, his help-mate! Women are meant to be a true support to their husbands and this really hits home to all women. Instead of being a nag, which we all tend to do, we are meant to be the support, the encourager! (You’ll have to watch the movie to get what men should be to women as well! That was great too!)
David A.R. White & Andrea Logan White as Mark & Claire Bowman
I really loved this couple in this movie. Some of the funniest moments were definitely with these two! There is one scene that Mark says that still lingers in my head and makes my husband and I still giggle, way after the fact. It’s one of those scenes that just stays with you. Let me know if you can figure out which scene it is…then leave a comment…and receive a gift. (This is separate from the contest below!) (This contest has ended as well!)
