CFDb Interviews Evan Leong ~ Director/Cinematographer/Producer
=> What steps led you to the film industry?
I took a documentary class when I was at Ucla called ethnocommunications. When I picked up the camera and started editing I fell in love.
=> How did the idea of ‘Linsanity’ come about?
When Jeremy was at Harvard there was talk about him making it to the NBA. The story of his life up to that point was fascinating and we thought this story needed to be told.
=> Can you tell us a little more about the film, ‘Linsanity’?
In February 2012, an entire nation of basketball fans unexpectedly went ‘Linsane.’ Stuck in the mire of a disappointing season, the New York Knicks did what no other NBA team had thought about doing. They gave backup point guard Jeremy Lin an opportunity to prove himself. He took full advantage, scoring more points in his first five NBA starts than any other player in the modern era, and created a legitimate public frenzy in the process.
=> What impact would you like to see as a direct result of ‘Linsanity’?
We just hope that people can learn about this incredible story about hope, faith, and dreams.
=> Are there any other films you’re working on that you can tell us about?
I’m currently working on another documentary about YouTube guru Michelle Phan. Although very different than Jeremy’s story, there are very similar themes about the American dream.
=> How can others learn more about you and your work?
