The Hidden Rebellion: Untold Story Behind the French Revolution
An 18th Century popular and Catholic uprising against the French Revolution is brutally suppressed by the Revolutionary armies. Priests and nuns are drowned, hung and thrown to an angry mob. A prayerful, peaceful region of France defends its clergy, resists the higher taxes and refuses to wage war.
Victorious at first, the Vendeans are later defeated in a 150,000 person extermination that includes the slaying of women and children so that “the race does not persist” and the world looks on as a quarter of the population vanishes.
The destruction of the population in the Vendee region was a goal of the French Revolutionary forces and raises a number of important issues related to religious liberty and political tyranny that are even more relevant and timely in light of today’s geo-political climate.
While the efforts to recognize the brutal genocide of the Vendee are underway at the United Nations, Christians and free people of good will everywhere must rise to bring the story to the world. Once completed, the film will not only be a powerful tool for evangelization, but also a counter-weight against the anti-Christian sentiment worldwide.
As recent events in Syria have shown, too many governments project a moral superiority and continually persecute Christians and free people of good will. These leaders have a vested interest in hiding the tyrannical side of the French Revolution, which served as a blueprint for both Lenin and Pol Pot. In 2013, anti-Christian parties everywhere celebrate this Revolution and utilize its principles as a means to foster dangerously hateful support and squelch opposition.
The story of the Vendee speaks to the issue of religious liberty and people’s freedom in a way never before articulated. The time is now for the truth to be told!
