‘Return to the Hiding Place’ ~
CFDb Movie Review &
When resistance fighter Piet Hartog witnesses atrocities toward the Jews, he is drawn by his beautiful love Aty and her Aunt Corrie into the web of espionage and clandestine activities in the Hiding Place, where he joins brilliant young physics student and resistance journalist, Hans Poley, embarking on a nonstop, action-packed hunt through underground tunnels, Gestapo hijacks, daring rescues, codes in windswept old windmills, and stunning miracles in one of history’s most famous dramas.
Piet, Hans, and their friends navigate a deadly labyrinth of challenges to rescue God’s people in their modern-day panicked exodus from death. Climaxing in the true, breath-taking rescue of an entire orphanage of Jewish children marked for mass execution by Hitler’s assassins, audiences will both cheer and weep at this exciting, sobering tale.
Excellent movie, full of gems, inspired by true events, and a little bit of humor too. Here were some highlights:
- From the very beginning of this film we were hooked and that remained until the very end.
- There was at least 1 scene that caused me to ask myself what would I have done in the same situation. That conversation between the Jewish man and Corrie Ten Boom is one that will really cause you to think. That particular conversation stayed with me through the night and inspired me to do a thorough study about this topic, and changed my way of thinking.
- Great cinematography and several wonderful God moments. You’ll know them when you see them.
- The powerful statement – I may not know the future, but I know Who holds my future.
What if this happened today? How can we not stand up for Jewish people, as Christians, when our Lord and Savior is a Jew! There are some places where Jews are persecuted. Do we stand idly by and not get involved…even if it’s our neighbor? I hope not! I pray for strength for all of us to truly love our brothers and sisters as did so many people during the Holocaust, at the risk of their own lives.
